Preface

Designing my own Belt Buckle.

24 July 2010

Throwing some ideas when I was eating Pasta in a restaurant.

At this point in time, my ideas revolve around the concept of my Logo being surrounded or encased by a larger frame design.
But it would seem that the logo will be too small by then...or should I say too much detail was being jammed into a small area.

29 July 2010

Things make sense quickly when I’ve decided to use the Logo design itself as the framing device.

As a matter of fact, it makes sense so quickly, the final design was born there and then.

09 August 2010

With the design finalized, I started thinking about what kind of “holding onto the belt” mechanism I should be using.

I was advised by a Cosplayer to just use a 3M Velcro for the attachment, according to him, it’s more than enough, alright then.

The buckle was then modeled in 3D to get it ready for 3D printing.

Its thickness & shape have to deviate a little from base concept to accommodate its actual size in reality.

The initial intention to have a slight curvature at the back of the buckle to “curve” around the tummy was dropped when I realize during the sizing phase that the buckle was too small to have to worry about “tummy wrapping” ;-p

02 September 2010

The result from 3D printing is fabulous when it comes to details, but I am not a fan of the texture that results from the way this particular 3D printer works [additional instead of subtractive], the next step will be to sand this baby down to an acceptable smooth texture.
